Please take a few moments to complete the crucial UK-wide research survey conducted by TransActual in collaboration with Dr Jack López.
The survey addresses the growing concerns observed after the Supreme Court’s judgment on 16 April 2025 and the subsequent EHRC interim guidance. These changes have coincided with increased reports of individuals facing harassment, discrimination, or challenges based on their gender or perceived gender in single-sex and public spaces such as toilets, changing rooms, and shelters.
This anonymous survey invites responses from: Transgender, non-binary, and gender non-conforming individuals: those who have faced similar challenges. Cisgender individuals: those who have been wrongly perceived as transgender or have experienced harassment.
Their key objectives are to:
1. Document people’s experiences of being challenged or discriminated against in single-sex spaces on the basis of gender or perceived gender.
2. Determine whether these encounters threaten personal safety for anyone who does not conform to gendered expectations.
3. Compare whether and how these experiences have changed since the Supreme Court’s judgment (16 April 2025) and the EHRC’s interim guidance.
TransActual are particularly eager to ensure representation of Black people and people of colour in this survey, to help them understand and highlight the racialised aspects gender policing.
The survey, which takes approximately 10–15 minutes to complete, will contribute invaluable insights to inform advocacy, policy, and campaigns aimed at fostering safer, more inclusive environments.
