How it all started
Abi and Leanne met at a LGBTQ+ group meeting in 2022 set up at The Black Door in Scunthorpe. From this a small group of volunteers set out to create Scunthorpe’s first Pride event.
Our story
The event started out with a few hundred pounds donated by previously held LGBTQ+ events Leanne ran at Penny Bank and Retro Bar. From there the team set out to fundraise and make grant applications to make Scunthorpe Pride a reality. Unexpectedly the first event attracted over 5,000 people and is growing year on year with 2025 attendance over 15,000.
Over the years people came and went but Abi and Leanne were super lucky to find reliable volunteers and life long friends along the way that are now part of the Pride board and wider team. Beckie joined us in 2023 and fast became one of the essential team members voted in as Pride chair deputy and later Charlie hopped aboard as treasurer.
In 2025, we welcomed Simone and Eve to the Pride committee.
Other 2025 main volunteers included Kevin, Matt , Gavin, Chrissie, James and Ruth.
Scunthorpe Pride also became a registered charity.
Our approach
Is to celebrate differences and diversity within our wider community. Accepting everyone and providing a free, friendly and welcoming event with safety at the forefront.
