Pride Event Q&A

All you need to know about Scunthorpe Pride 2023

Let’s start with one of the most important aspects of this event, it’s FREE! That’s right, our volunteers have been working hard to make this event accessible to all. No need for a ticket, just turn up on Sunday 25th August.

What time is the main event?

Main gates open 12pm. There will be plenty of characters, fun and games. The 20:21 Visual Arts Centre will also be opening for us to join in on the fun. The main event will close at 7pm.

Do I need a ticket to attend the main pride event?

Absolutely not, this event is free to make it accessible to all. We do all the background work and fundraising to make pride happen but donations are welcomed on the day to contribute.

Who is performing?

It’s a secret so far, but keep an eye on our socials from April onwards as we start to announce. We are really excited about the line up and can’t wait to tell you. We can tell you, Dame Ida will definitely be back as our hostess.

Are dogs allowed?

Only service dogs/Guide dogs. Pride is a family friendly event for the whole community including young children who can often find dogs startling. It takes place in Church Square which has limited access to grassy areas that are suitable for dogs to relieve themselves. It also has very little shade. With such a high footfall in a small area it is for these reasons that the committee regret to say that only service dogs are able to attend pride. If we get bigger in the future and change location we may be able to consider allowing dogs.

It is also a matter of health and safety on our event licensing.

How do I know the timings and line up?

We will make sure we have posters around site with set times and a day programme. We will also post running order on the website prior to the event.

Will there be a Pride Parade?

Yes, we hope to introduce this for 2024, it will be small scale and on foot, we will be sticking to a pedestrian route only so no vehicle access. Beckie has volunteered to become parade director. Register your group or organisations interest for the parade here.

Please check back soon for parade times and details.

Disabled Access Information

The site is flat hard ground and easily accessible. There will be a disabled portaloo and also the 20:21 Visual Arts Centre have disabled toilet facilities. Disabled parking bays onsite CANNOT be used, these are within the event arena and we cannot have moving traffic amongst the pedestrians for public safety. Please check local car parks, we have 2 very close and have added a new entrance for this year for accessibility.

Bar Information

We are hoping to run our own bar, this brings down costs for you as visitors and helps us raise money for next year. But this hasn’t been decided yet.

Can I bring a chair?

You can indeed, please feel free to bring a folding chair to sit on as we understand it’s a long day and hard ground. There are grassy areas around site but the biggest grass area is the bar. You can also pack some blankets if you feel you might get a bit chilly as the day goes on or to sit on. If it’s raining feel free to bring an umbrella. Read items not permitted here.

How do I get to Scunthorpe Pride?

There is plenty of parking and it’s close to public transport link, please visit the “Getting to Pride Page” for more info.

Where can I park?

There are quite a few large car parks in close proximity to the event, do not park at the Asda car park you may be fined. Use Carlton Street, The Parishes Multistory or another council car park. See car parks here Parking is free at North Lincs Council car parks on Saturday and Sunday’s.

Will there be food?

Yes of course, we have some different types of food vendors coming. From hog roast to Latin Fusion. See food vendors here

Are there Vegan or Gluten free options?

Yes! We’ve managed to get local vegan cafe to join us, they will be providing some tasty vegan and gluten free treats. Some of the other vendors will also be offering gluten free but please ask the individual vendors for dietary requirement info.

Will there be stalls?

Yes! Applications are now open, lots of vendors from our first year have chosen to return but we also have some new ones. Apply Now

What rules are there?

Well, obviously the generic safety rules apply and we have to keep everyone safe. We can’t allow alcohol outside of the licensed bar area, we can’t allow pets for their own safety. Please visit the “Site Rules Page” for further info.

What area is Pride taking over?

The pride site starts from past Specsavers on the High Street down the library square and also covers the area down the side of UTC engineering, these will be the main entrances to the pride arena. We will also be spilling to the town centre this year. Watch this space.

Will there be an After-party?

Now, last year we didn’t get much support from the venues we hosted with, most did not even decorate, so this year we are going bigger and better and there will be ONE main official after party at a venue yet to be disclosed (but it’s exciting)

Can I bring my own drinks?

You can, but NOT alcohol, you must bring a sealed bottle (no glass) You could also choose to bring a refillable bottle or cup as we will be providing water on site, please make sure your vessel is empty before entering site and fill up on site.

I’m worried about safety?

We have take security and your safety very seriously. The Entrance will not be far from the bus station if you are travelling via bus. And Taxi’s can drop off nearby to the entrance. Bag checks will be carried out by the security team. Any abusive behaviour must be reported immediately to a team member or security. No glass is to be brought on site. Site rule here. We also received feedback from our survey that the majority of people felt the event was “VERY SAFE”. On a scale of 1 to 10.

Who organised Scunthorpe Pride?

A very small team, there are four of us on the committee and we pretty much do every job going, from licensing, funding, planning, promotion, stage etc. See the team

We also had help on the day from some amazing volunteers!

Cash Machine

The closest cash machine can be found near the Foundry Shopping centre either side. One near to Costa (charges apply) and a free withdrawals machine past Specsavers and near to Greggs & Subway.

Can I bring a picnic?

We ask that you please don’t bring your own food onsite as we have some fantastic food vendors for the day with reasonable street food prices. Exceptions may be made for small children and people with very specific dietary requirements as we don’t expect you to go hungry.

Where to stay

If you’re looking for somewhere not to far from town and safe for the LGBTQ+ community then The Wortley House Hotel is our top recommendation, especially if you are anxious about staying somewhere, they will look after you. There are more options here on the Getting to Pride page.

Is there a VIP area?

No, everyone’s a V.I.P here, we didn’t want to charge and we want to make the event accessible to all.

Taxi Drop Off/Collect

Check the site map, Taxi’s can pick up near to the Carlton Street Entrance and the new entrance. (released soon)

I’m not part of the LGBTQ+ Community, can I still attend the event?

This event is open to everyone, as long as you are friendly and respectful. It is to celebrate differences, diversity, community, inclusion and love. We are all human at the end of the day, so come and meet some friends and have a good day.

Need help? Abuse, discrimination or injury?

Have an issue at the event, need help or have experienced abuse, discrimination or an injury. Please report this immediately to a member of the pride team, a volunteer or a member of Security.

Lost Child

Go to the lost child tent or event control. We are also looking at wristbands for the event, these will allow a phone number to be written on the child’s wrist.

What ages can attend Pride?

All ages are welcome. Small children must not be left unattended.

Recently submitted questions

Will there be changing facilities?

We are looking into what areas we can use for this especially for members of the trans community would do not feel comfortable to arrive at the event, obviously acts have changing facilities. We will also have access to toilets inside 20:21 Visual Arts centre and we may also have the library and UTC (to be confirmed). The local council are also building a purpose built disabled toilet and changing facility right in the grassed area next to Scunthorpe Central library.

If you have any further questions, you can submit them via the form below.
